Therapy is a structured and professional way to address the issues any individual might be facing in their life. These issues can be emotional, mental or behavioural. It is a setting where an individual and a professional (can be a counsellor, therapist or psychologist) come together, create a safe space for the client with no judgement and confidentiality. This is a process which follows its principles and particular method, or approach are be used for a specific purpose.
On the other hand, therapeutic refers to anything that can help the person to feel calm and better, in the moment. It is usually an activity or amalgamation of a few activities, which when come together work towards one goal i.e., making the individual feel rejuvenated so that he or she is able to face the stressors again with a new boost.
These two terms are used interchangeably a lot, but these are absolutely different from each other.
To break down these two terms even more:
Therapy deals with the root cause of the problem by helping the person to identify the triggers, patterns, emotional and physical responses they have towards events, resolve their unresolved traumas, past, emotions, childhood, any event that they feel unable to make sense of, or process it. It helps the person to navigate in their lives in a better way, so that they don't react but respond to the situation. Therapy tries to attain the goal of giving the individual freedom and autonomy in their lives.
While therapeutic, can be anything such as, doing skin care, hair care, going for a walk, talking to a friend, going for a trip, music, writing, painting and many more such activities which make you feel better. These make you feel better in the moment. therapeutic does not caters the cause of the event which upset the individual. This is to help the individual to bounce back quickly to the present and handle the situation better. It is a quick solution for individuals to stick to the work or the routine that they have been following. however, it does not override the emotional turmoil that any individual has to go through fir any event.
Hope it helped!
